How long have you been designing? I started designing in 2005, scrapbooking was very new in Australia back then and I hated the mess that those bits of paper made, so I was looking online for some way to use a computer and I found digital stores, I was amazed at how good it looked and I was hooked. Where do you call home? I live in Queensland, Australia, out in a rural area of the Sunshine Coast. My yard is very tropical and it reminds me everyday of the place that I will always call home….Rabaul in Papua New Guinea. I was taken there with my parents when I was 3 months old and lived there until I was married, it holds my heart and it will always be home. What is the best gift you have been given? My parents, they were always there for me and supported me in everything I did. I miss them so much. What is your favorite childhood memory? Oh there are so many, but one of the best was when we would go to a friend’s plantation and on the way home at night there was a patch of huge trees that always had fireflies in it. Dad would always stop and we would just sit and watch them flying around in the pitch black, one of the advantages of living in an unpopulated area. Who is your hero? My Dad. He was such a special man. He lost a leg at the age of 19 but he never let that be an excuse. When WWII started he wanted to join the Australian Navy (he was a ships captain) but they would only give him a desk job, so he joined the American Merchant Marines and spent the war taking a small timber boat between Australia and New Guinea, sailing only at night and hiding in rivers by day, dropping off supplies, mail, Coastwatcher’s and returning with mail, bodies and Coastwatcher’s. He is my hero. What is the farthest you have ever traveled from home? From Queensland to Europe, 14,495 km or 8756.87 miles. To finish off we would love to share some of Julie C Designs' favorite layouts: |
