Q&A With The Designer: Karen Schulz
Where do you call home?
I
live with my husband and 2 dogs in a tiny, rural community by the name
of Coarsegold, California. It is about 30 miles south of Yosemite
National Park. We moved here 10 years ago from Southern California,
where I had lived all of my life. I had always wanted to live in the
country, so this was the perfect move for us.
Your favorite toy as a child was?
This
will probably sound very strange, but my favorite toy was an oval, flat
red rock. I suppose I loved it because of its color and texture. It
wasn't really a toy, of course, but it was something that I think of
when I think back to "favorites." My mom thought it was "just" a rock
and threw it away, and I still remember feeling devastated that I didn't
have that rock any longer.
Tell us about something on your bucket list!
Traveling
to Africa is on my Bucket List. My husband and I are lucky enough to be
able to travel quite a bit, but I'm not sure we'll even be able to make
it to Africa. There are several reasons for that: political unrest,
the cost of the trip the way we would want to make it... I guess those 2
are enough.
What was your favorite subject in school?
My
favorite subject in school was Algebra. I loved it because it was like
a puzzle. I was in advanced math classes for years, until I was in a
class where our teacher put us through 4 years of math in one year. I
got so far behind that I lost all interest in math, and lost my desire
to be a teacher too.
Do you collect anything?
The
only thing I collect is things I purchase at Thrift stores to use in
DIY projects. I don't like to have other collections of things, like
salt shakers, figurines, or other types of things, because they are just
things I would have to dust. :)
To finish off we would love to share some of Karen’s favorite layouts:
